I had so many feelings and emotions going on. All I knew was that I wanted my ex back. I didn’t care about the consequences. When my boyfriend broke up with me I was in complete and total denial. Breakups are never easy. I don’t think it breaking up effects guys as much for some reason.
Obviously, this man meant the whole world to me. Can you blame me though? We’ve been in a seemingly strong relationship and had been dating for years. I never saw the time with him ending. To be honest, I felt hopeless every day and I was really hurting inside. Sex and relationships are hard.
It was when I started coming out of the house and meeting other people that my outlook in life gradually changed after my boyfriend broke up with me. I realized that this world is still very beautiful despite its flaws, and the time I’ve spent sulking in the corner and mulling over my past problems is a time I could never regain anymore.

I had to convince myself that I wasn’t lonely and that I had a lot to offer the world. I wasn’t going to forever let life pass me by simply because my boyfriend broke up with me that’s for sure. Sure I wanted him back but I had to develop some self esteem again. I wasn’t going to start chasing after him. I wish the feelings were mutual about the breakup but they weren’t. I was obsessive about my boyfriend.
When my boyfriend broke up with me that day it was very painful and ever since then I’ve just been coping with how much I miss him every single day. Sadly, these rotten feelings about the separation lasted for many months.
Let’s look at some of the reasons your boyfriend dumped you:
- Poor communication
- Commitments issues
- Abusive relationship (this could be verbal abuse)
- Your inability to apologize or admit wrongdoing
- Too much conflict in the relationship
- He never really loved you
- You weren’t marriage material
- Personality: you acted rude, didn’t treat him with respect or appreciate him
- Too much arguing
- Location: long distance relationships never work
That’s the point when I finally started to experience healing by following my own desires for life. That’s the moment when I finally stepped out of that dark path and started embracing a newer and better me. I completely reversed a negative mindset regarding the fact that my boyfriend broke up with me. The shock wore off and the situation was resolved. Life got much better for me.
I was no longer upset and trying to understand why my boyfriend broke up with me. I gave up. I stopped acting from a position of weakness by begging and pleading with him to rebuild our former romantic relationship.
And while being dumped by someone I used to love is something I could never, ever erase from my past anymore, I realized that I still have a choice anyway. And that choice entails to finally live this life to the fullest. So I stopped feeling sorry for myself by eating chocolate secretly hoping my ex boyfriend would have become my husband.
I know that some of you can fully relate to what I’m saying right now. So in order for me to help you with your own personal heartbreak story, I would like to share some of the things that I personally did to cope when my boyfriend broke up with me 6 months ago:
1. I cried and talked to someone:
Being heartbroken is definitely not an easy thing to avoid, so I made sure that I gave myself enough time to mourn for a relationship that’s now over. I made peace with his needs and the method he used to dump me.
I also spent a few days inside my room, all by myself, deeply thinking about all the possible reasons as to why my boyfriend broke up with me. And once I was already ready, I immediately called my concerned friends and willingly invited them to come over to our house just to talk. I tell you, there’s no other comforting feeling than seeing your most trustworthy girlfriends all huddled around you and were just there to listen and give you their best tips and advice.
2. I finally learned to accept and move on:
You’ll eventually reach the point where you have no more choice but to accept the things that happened and just move on. I felt like he was ignoring me and had no intention to make up. Realize that there’s really no point of clinging to something that’s not even there anymore. You still have yourself to take care of and a life to face. Don’t let a major heartache ruin your daily chances of living a wonderful and exciting life once again.
As a female going through this kind of relationship difficulty (even for married couples that get divorced) you must simply decide what kind of life you want to pursue. Having hatred for him won’t get you anywhere. Show him that when he wanted to leave you, he’s missing out on the best thing he ever had. Show him he never deserved you to begin with. Rekindling is not an option for you to consider. This must be initiated by your boyfriend since he’s the one who dumped you.
3. I started doing something new:
When my boyfriend broke up with me, I immediately felt that my world crumbled and my whole universe crashed. His absence from my daily life was like a huge gaping hole in my heart. My emotional attachment to him was so strong that my whole being was just utterly surprised by his departure from my life. But through the help of my family and friends, I was able to rise up and pursue other wonderful interests. I began exercising and traveling to new places more often. I also began applying for a new work that I know I’d surely love doing. These and a lot more are just some of the manifestations of my desire to live beautifully and wonderfully once more.
Now I regularly resist the temptation to call him on the cell phone and want him back.
4. I relied more on my faith:
My faith was totally tested when my boyfriend broke up with me all of a sudden. But then I realized that what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger. That said, I firmly believe that my failed relationship only made my faith stronger. There were really some times before when I said to God that this pain hurt so much, but I figured that what I was experiencing at that time was not even close to what he has experienced.
That thought alone ultimately gave me the strength to just rise up and keep on fighting.
5. I focused on becoming a better person:
I learned that crying over spilled milk wouldn’t really do me any good, so I just tried to become a much better person today than I was yesterday. It was so hard to realize this yet just weeks or even months after my boyfriend broke up with me over somebody else, but just be patient because it truly takes time. Life is such one, long exciting journey anyway, and being better and better every single day gives you more chances to discover and meet more wonderful people along the way.
